Hotel New Akao (1993-250, Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture) will hold a “Showa Retro Gourmet Fair” featuring nostalgic Showa-era gourmet dishes for lunch only starting November 4.
This is the first gourmet project in honor of the “100th Anniversary of the Showa Era” in 2025. At the buffet hall “Main Dining Nishiki,” which boasts a gorgeous interior and ocean view that retains the Showa era, you can enjoy classic Western dishes like Neapolitan and omelette rice, which are popular for children’s lunches. Also available are pudding a la mode, which can be customized to your own taste, and SNS-worthy cream sodas that will make you want to take a picture. The restaurant offers a world view of 100 years of Showa Era that is nostalgic for seniors and new for the younger generation.
The price is 2,970 yen per person. During the Retro Gourmet Fair, two limited main dishes (Plate A and Plate B) will be added to the regular half buffet lunch, and a “cream soda” will be offered to those who order Plate A or B. The “make-your-own pudding a la mode” corner is open to all lunch patrons.
Plate A is a nostalgic yet luxurious dish featuring Neapolitan and omelette rice, which symbolize the Western food culture of the Showa period, with beef stew sauce that has an elegant hotel-like flavor. Plate B is a satisfying plate featuring ginger yaki pork, fried shrimp, ham cutlet, and fried bread.
The cream soda, available only to those who order these two dishes, is a nostalgic drink of bright melon soda with vanilla ice cream and bright red cherries. It is recommended to savor it slowly as an after-dinner dessert.
The pudding a la mode corner is open to all lunch customers, and you can freely add whipped cream, caramel, chocolate sauce, fruit, and other toppings to enjoy your one-of-a-kind original pudding a la mode as much as you like.
The regular half-buffet lunch menu offers a choice of one of five main dishes from the Japanese, Chinese, and Western cuisines, including seafood rice bowls and the hotel’s special hamburger steak. In addition, Hakone Mishima Nishiroku vegetable salad, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts are all-you-can-eat.
Also on sale is the “Half Buffet Lunch + Day Trip with Hot Springs” (4,950 yen on weekdays, 5,500 yen on holidays), which allows guests to enjoy a spectacular infinity bath before or after lunch.
Incidentally, the autumn foliage season in Atami starts in earnest in late November. It is known as “Japan’s latest autumn foliage,” and the best time to view the leaves is said to last until early December. Visitors can enjoy viewing the autumn foliage at various locations, including the “Atami Plum Garden,” where approximately 380 maple trees are in full color, and the “Tea Garden,” a Japanese garden at the MOA Museum of Art.
