Tokyo Monorail to Implement Special Obon Schedule Starting August 13; “Airport Rapid” Services Expanded on Weekday Mornings Around 6:00 a.m. and on Weekends and Holidays in the Evening

Posted on July 21, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Tokyo Monorail will implement a special schedule during the 2026 Obon holiday period to improve access to Haneda Airport.

On August 13 and 14, which follow the weekday schedule, two “Section Rapid” trains (departing at 6:37 a.m. and 6:42 a.m.) among the downbound trains departing from Hamamatsucho Monorail Station in the 6:00 a.m. hour will be changed to “Airport Rapid” trains. As a result, the travel time to Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Station will be approximately 3 minutes shorter than usual. On August 15 and 16, which follow the weekend and holiday schedule, additional “Airport Rapid” trains heading north will depart from Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Station, with two extra trains (departing at 9:52 p.m. and 10:57 p.m.) being added to the schedule.

In addition, as a special discount ticket for the Obon period, the “Monorail & Yamanote Line Discount Ticket”—which can be used from stations at Haneda Airport to stations within the JR Yamanote Line— (590 yen for adults / 290 yen for children) will be available at ticket vending machines inside the airport from July 18 to August 31 (valid for same-day use; cash only).

From July 18 through August 31, Mobile Suica will offer the “Monorail & Tokyo Metropolitan Area Pass” (1,450 yen for adults), a Mobile Suica-exclusive ticket that provides one-day unlimited rides on non-reserved seats on JR local trains (including rapid services) within Tokyo’s 23 wards and on the entire Tokyo Monorail network.

In addition, as part of an initiative to highlight the appeal of the Tokyo Monorail—nicknamed the “Tokyo Panorama Line”—company employees will make onboard announcements titled “Scenic Guide” on select Airport Rapid trains from August 8 to 16. These announcements will introduce views of Tokyo Bay and the city center, as well as points of interest along the route.
