The Tokyo Marathon Foundation and the Metropolitan Police Department have posted information on their official website regarding traffic regulations for the Tokyo Marathon 2026 on March 1.
Regulations will be enforced from around 6:00 a.m. around the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building at the starting point, and from around 7:00 a.m. on Gyoko-dori Avenue at the finishing point. Thereafter, as the race progresses, restrictions will be enforced from around 8:35 to 16:25 on Yasukuni, Chuo, Kiyosumi, Hibiya, and other streets.
The organizers are asking visitors to refrain from traveling on the course and surrounding roads while the restrictions are in place, and are also calling for caution as crossing the course will not be allowed.
Regulation times at major locations are as follows. The regulation time is expected to become longer towards the end of the course.
Around Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (near the starting point): around 6:00 – 10:15 a.m.
Yasukuni Dori (Tomikucho Nishi to Ichigaya Mitsuke): 8:35 – 10:40 a.m.
Chuo Dori (Nihonbashi Kitazume – Nihonbashi): approx. 8:55 – 2:45 p.m.
Kiyosumi Dori (from Morishita Stn. to Kiyosumi 3-chome): approx. 9:00 – 13:55
Hibiya Dori (Nishi-Shinbashi to in front of Shiba Koen Grand): around 9:40 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Gyoko-dori Avenue (near the finish line): approx. 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
During the traffic control around Akihabara Station from 8:55 to 11:50 a.m., pedestrians cannot pass through Chuo-dori (between Suda-machi intersection and Ueno-hirokoji) when heading west from Tsukuba Express Akihabara Station, so visitors are advised to use the free shuttle bus.
Toei buses will suspend, reroute, and reroute services and suspend stops on approximately 50 bus routes.
On the Metropolitan Expressway, some entrances and exits will be closed to vehicular traffic. The Shinjuku Exit (up) and Shinjuku Exit (down) on the No. 4 Shinjuku Line near the starting point will be closed to traffic from around 6:30, as well as the Iidabashi Exit (up) and Nishi-Kanda Exit (down) on the No. 5 Ikebukuro Line and the Hamacho Exit (Hakozaki Rotary) on the No. 6 Mukojima Line.
The “Detour Route Search” function is available on the Tokyo Marathon 2026 official website. Enter the starting point, destination, and departure or arrival time, and the available routes for the day will be displayed.
