JR Tokai will implement a timetable revision on March 14. This article introduces the main revision points of the Tokaido Shinkansen.
In the mornings and evenings, when there are many passengers, the number of extra “Nozomi” trains will be increased, and together with regular trains, the maximum number of trains per hour will be strengthened from 12 to 13. Downbound trains will depart from Tokyo Station between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m., and upbound trains will depart from Shin-Osaka Station between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
In addition, some trains that operate between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka Stations in 2 hours and 30 minutes will have their travel time shortened by 3 minutes. The 13th “Nozomi” train departing from Shin-Osaka Station at 17:00 will be bound for Shinagawa instead of Tokyo on some days.
The number of up trains will be increased during the early morning hours. A new extra “Nozomi No. 548” train will depart from Kyoto Station, arriving at Tokyo Station 11 minutes earlier than the current train.
The temporary “Nozomi No. 498”, the first “Nozomi” train from Nagoya Station, will become a regular train as “Nozomi No. 288” with this timetable revision, and will be available every day.
In addition, “Kodama No. 700,” the first “Kodama” train from Nagoya Station, will be extended as a special train departing from Gifu-Hashima Station only on days with high ridership.
During late-night hours, the departure time from Nagoya Station of the last “Kodama” up train bound for Shizuoka Station will be moved back by 7 minutes. By making the Kakegawa-Shizuoka route faster than before, passengers will be able to stay longer in Nagoya, Mikawa-Anjo, Toyohashi, Hamamatsu, and Kakegawa. Also, on days when the temporary “Nozomi No. 516” is in operation, passengers will be able to change trains at Nagoya Station, making travel between the Kansai and Chubu regions more convenient.
In addition, a temporary “Nozomi No. 206” train will be available from Hakata Station to Shinagawa later than the current last train to Tokyo, extending the time passengers can stay along the line. One round-trip “Nozomi” train between Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka/Okayama Station will be extended to/from Hiroshima Station on certain days.
