The Parks Japan Foundation (Parks Japan.F) announced that the removal of frost protection sheets has begun at Miharashi no Oka in the National Hitachi Seaside Park (605-4 Onuma, Mawata, Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture). The sheets protected the nemophila plants from the winter cold until they sprouted and took root. When the sheets are removed, the nemophila growing all over the hill will be revealed.
A total of about 70 people will remove the sheets covering about 4.2 ha, and the work is scheduled to be completed on February 26. Since the frost protection sheets have high heat and moisture retention properties and promote growth, the sheets will be removed while observing the growth of nemophila, giving priority to areas where the plants have grown large. As the sheets are removed and the leaves of the nemophila spread, the Miharashi Hill will gradually turn green.
The nemophila at Miharashi no Oka is one variety of insignis blue, and approximately 5.3 million of them are planted over a vast area. The best time to view them is expected to be from mid-April to early May.
The park’s cafĂ© offers an original menu that can be enjoyed in any season, including a drink reminiscent of the blue color of nemophila.
