Take advantage of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s subsidy for purchasing security cameras and Black Friday. Maximum 20,000 to 40,000 yen, no co-pay in some municipalities.

Posted on February 12, 2026 by Editor in Chief

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is subsidizing the purchase and installation of security equipment for private homes as part of the “FY2025 Tokyo Emergency Subsidy Program for the Purchase of Security Equipment, etc.”. In response to the increase in home invasions and burglaries, as typified by so-called “black market” burglaries, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is implementing this program in order to contribute to “raising the crime prevention awareness of Tokyo residents and realizing safe and secure lifestyles”.

Eligible items include security cameras, intercoms with cameras, security films, etc. Eligible persons are heads of households registered as residents in Tokyo and residing there (or those who conform to such registration). Applications should be submitted to the municipality (city, ward, town or village) in which the applicant resides.

As for the TMG program, the maximum subsidy amount is 20,000 yen per household (1/2 for the TMG and 1/2 for the residents = half of the purchase price is subsidized and half is paid by the residents), but local governments may add their own subsidy amounts.

For example, in Chiyoda Ward, the subsidy rate is 10/10 with a maximum of 40,000 yen, and in Edogawa Ward, the subsidy rate is 3/4 with a maximum of 30,000 yen.

To be more specific, in Chiyoda Ward, there is no copayment for eligible items up to 40,000 yen, while in Edogawa Ward, eligible items of 40,000 yen are subsidized at 30,000 yen with a copayment of 10,000 yen, and eligible items of 20,000 yen are subsidized at 15,000 yen with a copayment of 5,000 yen.

Most municipalities provide subsidies in the range of 20,000 to 40,000 yen, but some municipalities, such as Musashino City with a maximum of 50,000 yen and Katsushika and Taito wards with a maximum of 60,000 yen.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has a list of municipalities that offer subsidized projects on its website, so please first check the subsidy ratio of the municipality in which you reside.

The subsidy is not unconditional. After purchase, an application form, a copy of the receipt, a copy of identification documents, a photograph of the installed equipment, and several other documents must be submitted. The application itself can be done online as long as the documents are in order, but it should be noted that the installation must be completed in order for the photograph to be taken. The deadline for application also differs from municipality to municipality, such as from January to March 2026, so please check this point in advance.

Since Black Friday sales are currently being held at Amazon, other retailers, and brick-and-mortar stores, why not take advantage of the sales and city subsidies to purchase a security camera or other equipment?
