This paper focuses on a late night flight from Haneda to Singapore, a lounge at Changi International Airport that I used between connections, and a flight from Changi Airport to Langkawi.
I visited Langkawi Island in the Andaman Sea, northwest of Malaysia, as part of a press tour co-sponsored by Tourism Malaysia and Singapore Airlines.
The trip was in economy class on a Boeing 787-10.
Would you like to go to Langkawi, Malaysia?” I immediately replied, “I’d love to go! I typed in “Langkawi” on my keyboard and checked the location on Google Maps and found ……. I typed in “Langkawi” on my keyboard and checked its location on Google Maps. I thought for a moment, “This is Langkawi Island, which is so close to the border of Thailand. It takes about 3 hours by car to go around the island, and there are many legends about this nature island.
Currently, there are no direct flights from Japan to Langkawi, so it is common to fly via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. This time, I flew with Singapore Airlines, connecting at Changi International Airport, and landed at Langkawi, an island of everlasting summer, with Scoot, an LCC of the same group.
For your information, when you make a flight reservation on the Singapore Airlines website, simply enter “Langkawi” as the destination, and you can issue a ticket from Tokyo to Langkawi with a single reservation number.
For Economy Class, baggage is limited to 25kg or 30kg/person (depending on class), and suitcases checked in at Haneda will be through-checked in to Langkawi, the final destination, without baggage pickup in Singapore.
Singapore Airlines operates three such flights a day from Haneda to Singapore, and one to three flights a day from Narita, Centrair (Chubu), Kansai International Airport, and Fukuoka, respectively (as of January 2026).
We used flight SQ639, which was on a temporary increase in frequency only from December 2 to 21, 2025, departing Haneda Airport at 2:05 am and arriving in Singapore at 8:30 am the next morning.
The aircraft is a Boeing 787-10, with 36 seats in business class and 301 seats in economy class, for a total of 337 seats.
The economy class we used has a 3-3-3 side-by-side 9 arrangement, and all seats are equipped with 11.6-inch personal monitors. Note that if you register as a member of KrisFlyer, the Singapore Airlines Group’s frequent flyer program, you can enjoy unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi access. There is no enrollment or annual fee, so if you are not a member, please register before boarding!
The flight time to Singapore was 7 hours and 25 minutes. Since it was a late-night flight, the cabin lights were dimmed shortly after takeoff and we went to bed. Breakfast was served after 7:00 a.m., and we could choose either Japanese or Western food.
