Tokyo Metro and the Tokyo Metropolitan Transportation Bureau will revise the prices of the Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway One-Day Ticket and other tickets on March 14, and will start QR code boarding service for the ticket and the Tokyo Subway Ticket for foreign and domestic visitors to Japan on March 25 at 10:00.
The price of the “Tokyo Metro/Toei Subway One-Day Pass” will increase from the current 900 yen to 1,100 yen, and the “Tokyo Free Ticket” will increase from 1,600 yen to 1,720 yen.
In line with this change, the prices of common planning tickets (such as the “Keio-Tokyo Metro/Toei Subway Pass”) that are sold in sets with other operators such as Keio Corporation and Tokyu Corporation will also be changed in the same way.
On March 13, the day before the price revision, sales of the “Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway Common 1-day Pass” at Tokyo Metro commuter pass sales offices will end.
From March 25, visitors will be able to enter by displaying the QR code of a ticket purchased in advance on the screen of their smartphone and holding it over the reader of an automatic ticket gate.
The applicable tickets are the Tokyo Metro/Toei Subway One-Day Ticket (QR) and Tokyo Subway Ticket (QR). This allows users to complete the entire process from purchase to use with a single digital device, without stopping by a ticket counter or ticket vending machine.
QR readers will be installed at least one aisle at each ticket gate of all stations except those managed by other companies by the end of March. However, at some stations (non-compliant stations), such as Kita-Senju, Nakameguro, Nakano, and Yoyogi-Uehara stations on the Hibiya Line, and Shinjuku station on the Shinjuku Line, users will be required to scan QR codes presented by station staff or be guided by a staff member to pass through.
