Izumo-taisha Shrine (195 Kitsuki-higashi, Taisha-cho, Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture) has posted information on its official website regarding traffic restrictions for the Hatsumode (New Year’s visit) in 2026.

From 10:00 p.m. on December 31 to 4:00 p.m. on January 1 and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day from December 1 to 3, the roads around the Museum of Ancient Izumo History (which is closed) will be partially operated as one-way streets. Also, from the 1st to the 3rd, left-turn entry to the Izumo Grand Shrine parking lot from the Inasa intersection (ocean side) will be prohibited, and right-turn entry from the Sedame intersection (in front of the Otorii gate) will be required (except for buses and cabs).

For details, please check the Izumo-taisha Shrine Area Traffic Regulations Map (PDF).

The Ichibata Railway, which runs to the nearest Izumo Taisha Station, will increase its service on Sangatsu (New Year’s Day) as a special New Year’s timetable. The schedule is available on the website.
