On March 6, JR East opened to the press the construction site of “TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY,” a development project around Takanawa Gateway Station. The public was able to photograph the 2nd floor directly connected to the station and part of the 14th floor, which is located in the middle level of the complex.
Takanawa Gateway Station (Yamanote and Keihin Tohoku Lines) is scheduled to open on March 14, 2020. The area around the station will be transformed into a new urban area, where a cluster of high-rise buildings containing offices, residences, and commercial facilities will be constructed.
The building complex I (north and south wings), where photography was permitted this time, is located in the 4th district near the station. The south wing will house high-grade offices and a large hall with convention and conference functions, a luxury hotel on the upper floors, and a retail facility on the lower floors.
At the site, we were able to take pictures from four corners of the 14th floor. In the northern direction, Tokyo Tower could be seen, and unfortunately we could not see it this time, but if weather permits, Mt. To the south, Shinagawa Station, 0.9 km away, could be seen, and to the east, Rainbow Bridge, about 2 km away, could be seen.
The second floor is a deck with direct access to the Takanawa Gateway Station, which was also under construction. According to the person in charge, “construction is progressing smoothly,” and he said it would be completed (station area and complex building I) in the scheduled March 2025. The company is also working to create a wide-area startup ecosystem based on TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY. This is a project to create new solutions based on big data from 100,000 visitors to the city, with a focus on the environment, mobility, and healthcare for the next 100 years, and is called the “TAKANAWA GATEWAY Link Scholars’ Hub. The University of Tokyo, National University of Singapore (NUS), Hakuhodo, Livanes, and JR East Japan Planning are invited as managing partners to support more than 100 startup companies from Japan and abroad.
