Restaurants, Marche, and food in the Noailles area! It is located in the Place Julien in the Noailles district, a few stops away from the hotel by metro! I was so excited to find white eggplants, sundried lilies, and other unusual vegetables and weeds at the marché. My favorite figs are also inexpensive! The popular bakery “PAIN PAN!” near the marché had gluten-free and 100% spelt wheat bread. A 10-minute walk from the bakery is Oh Faon! La Patisserie, which has a dairy-free vegan patisserie. I bought a cookie, and there were so many varieties to choose from. Related to the patisserie, there is also a cafe where you can buy Japanese sweets. La Brulerie MOKA, located just outside the Noailles district, sells dorayaki and daifuku made by Japanese people every Wednesday. The “limmat” restaurant, which is only open at night, is extremely difficult to make a reservation. Reservations can only be made by phone, but it is very difficult to get an answer. If possible, it would be better to make a reservation in person at the restaurant. When I actually went there, I understood why it is so popular. The owner couple and the other employees are very cheerful! They were working and chatting amiably with the regulars and the flower vendor lady who seems to come here often. There is no meat on the menu, but fresh vegetables and fish dishes all look delicious. The tableware was vintage, as was the furniture in the restaurant, and the patterns were all different and very pretty. In the Noailles district, Maison Empereur, the oldest hardware store still in business in France, has a great atmosphere. Even though it is called a hardware store, there are many miscellaneous goods, all of which are very nice. I went back here for the first time in 11 years, and was pleasantly surprised by the maze-like interior of the store. It was similar to the basement of BHV, a department store in Paris that I used to love before it was renovated! Speaking of Marseille, one cannot forget the sea! There are beaches that can be reached on foot or by bus. If you drive your car for a while, you can find beaches all over the place. If you take a boat from the old port, you can reach the islands of If and Friul in a few minutes. Finally, the northern part of Marseille is said to be a particularly dangerous area, but my husband’s workplace was in the 15th arrondissement, so we went there several times. It was indeed a very strange area with a rough atmosphere and on the other hand, new buildings are mixed in with redevelopment. Paris also has this kind of atmosphere when you go to the north, so I feel that I have seen this kind of scenery somewhere else, but I don’t think it is necessary for tourists, especially those from Japan, to dare to go there. Next time, we will leave Marseille and visit one of the most beautiful villages in France, where we will see the pink salt fields in the vast marshland and rare flora and fauna!
