Tama-ku, Kawasaki City introduces cherry blossom viewing spots (best viewing time is from late March to early April) and cherry blossom viewing events as spring outings located in close proximity to Tokyo.
Ikuta Ryokuchi is a natural environment with an area of 95.5 hectares, or about 20 times the size of Tokyo Dome, and boasts approximately 1,500 cherry trees of various kinds, including someiyoshino, yaezakura, and weeping cherry trees. From the Masugatayama Observatory, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city and its cherry blossoms.
The Nigaryo Waterworks is a man-made irrigation channel approximately 32 km long that runs from Tama-ku, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture to Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, using the Tama River and other rivers as its source of water. About 300 Someiyoshino cherry trees line both sides of the creek for about 2 km, allowing visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms while feeling the flow of the river. Nearby is the Funajima River Bridge, a railway bridge on the Nambu Line, where you can see trains running amidst the cherry blossoms up close.
In front of the Kawasaki Agricultural Technology Support Center, a large cherry blossom tree covers the road, creating an enjoyable cherry blossom tunnel. The road is on a slope, and the view from the top of the slope is recommended.
In addition, on March 25, a concert featuring music and dance performances will be held at the plaza in front of the Nigaryo Seseragi-kan. Admission will be free.
Other events include a cherry blossom festival with kitchen cars and other vendors at the Kawasaki City Ryokka Center on March 25, a TAIWA cherry blossom festival on March 26, and a cherry blossom festival on the grounds of Shukugawara Hachiman Shrine on April 2.
