Tokyu Corporation has announced plans for the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line, scheduled to open in March 2023.
The 5.8-km section between Shin-Yokohama Station and Hiyoshi Station will provide enhanced access to the Tokaido Shinkansen Line from within the Tokyu Line. All trains will connect directly with the Toyoko Line or the Meguro Line, and all trains going directly to the Toyoko Line will be express trains, while those going directly to the Meguro Line will be express trains and run at various stations. All trains will stop at Shin-Yokohama Station and Shin-Tsunashima Station.
During the weekday morning rush hours, up to 16 trains per hour will be operated on the up train schedule. Four of these trains will directly connect to the Toyoko Line and 12 to the Meguro Line. Of the 12 trains that directly connect to the Meguro Line, up to 5 trains depart from Shin-Yokohama Station.
As a result of this change, the four nonstop trains (four per hour) starting from Kikuna Station on the Toyoko Line will be replaced by express trains that directly connect with the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line. On the Meguro Line, the express trains will, in principle, change overtaking stations from Musashikoyama Station to Okusawa Station, thereby reducing the express train’s travel time between Hiyoshi Station and Meguro Station by 2 minutes. In addition, six express trains will overtake each station at both Okusawa and Musashi Koyama Stations, reducing the time required between Hiyoshi Station and Meguro Station by up to five minutes.
During daytime hours, the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line operates six trains per hour. Two of these trains connect directly to the Toyoko Line, and four to the Meguro Line. Two of the four direct trains to the Meguro Line depart from Shin-Yokohama Station.
