Weathernews announced the weather trend from the night of August 12 to the dawn of August 13, which is the best time to observe the Perseid meteor shower, one of the three major meteor showers.
The Perseid meteor shower is known as one of the three major meteor showers along with the Quadrantids meteor shower in January and the Geminids meteor shower in December, and the number of meteors that can be observed is one of the highest in the year. This year, the activity peaks around 10:00 a.m. on August 13, and a large number of meteors are expected to appear from the night of August 12 to the dawn of August 13, with up to 30 meteors per hour.
On that day, Okinawa and western Japan to southern Tohoku will be widely covered by a Pacific high pressure system, and although clouds are likely to spread slightly due to moist air, chances for meteor observation are high. On the other hand, Hokkaido and the northern Tohoku region are expected to be affected by a frontal system, making meteor observation difficult.
On the evening of August 12, a special program will be broadcast on Weather News LiVE, a channel specializing in weather information. The program will broadcast the starry sky live from four locations in Japan, providing viewers with a glimpse of the meteor shower. If you have difficulty observing outdoors, please be sure to check out the program.
