Ace has released the “Frester EX2,” an updated version of the “Frester EX” front-opening suitcase from the Japanese travel bag brand “PROTECA.” Prices are 86,900 yen for the 36L carry-on size, 97,900 yen for the 76L checked size, and 103,400 yen for the 105L size.

It features a front-opening design—which has seen growing demand in recent years for its ease of use even in cramped hotel rooms—as well as a tall, trunk-style design with deep gussets (suitable for checked baggage) and an expandable feature that accommodates changes in the amount of luggage.

In the new model, the zipper mechanism has been redesigned so that the suitcase can be opened either vertically or horizontally, depending on the situation. Opening it vertically allows you to retrieve items while keeping the suitcase upright during travel, while opening it horizontally makes it easier to organize your belongings even in confined spaces, such as hotels.

The casters have been upgraded from the conventional single-wheel design to a dual-wheel design, allowing for easier turning with less effort. As with the previous model, the unit features the proprietary “Silent Caster,” which reduces noise during operation and ensures quiet movement. Additionally, the “Bearon Wheel,” equipped with high-durability chrome steel bearings that minimize frictional resistance, delivers a smooth ride.

It also features the patented “Magic Stop” caster stopper function, which prevents unexpected movement on swaying trains or inclines. You can easily lock the wheels in place with the push of a switch right at your fingertips.

The body shell features ribbing—a pattern of raised and recessed lines—inspired by the grooves (“hi”) found on the blades of Japanese swords, which enhances strength while creating a premium look.
