[Weekend Station Bento] Shin-Osaka Station “Eel Roll Sushi (4-piece pack)”

Posted on October 21, 2026 by Editor in Chief

Shin-Osaka Station offers an extensive selection of ekiben, with a wide variety of types and numerous sales counters, so it’s a station where you can easily find the perfect ekiben for your needs—from cuisine type to size.

What I bought at Shin-Osaka Station was a pack of “eel sushi rolls (4 pieces).” Since this was a meal for a train ride that lasted only 20 minutes, I chose something small and easy to eat.

It contains four rolls—one with grilled eel and one with thick omelet—and there are no side dishes to break up the meal. It’s a very simple ekiben. However, the generous portion of eel and the even larger thick-omelet futomaki are more filling than they appear. At first glance, the large thick omelet stands out, but the eel’s flavor is more pronounced; true to the product’s name, the eel firmly takes center stage.

Although the wrapper labels the rice as “vinegared rice,” the vinegar flavor is subtle, and the rice has a sweet taste that complements the eel and egg. The amount of rice is just enough to lightly surround the large pieces of topping, so I was able to fully enjoy the flavors of the toppings.

In the end, I only had about 10 minutes to eat on the train, but even so, I was able to enjoy the flavors of the eel and thick-style omelet without rushing. It’s quick and easy to eat, yet very satisfying, so I recommend it to busy people—such as those who work on their laptops during long train rides.
