JR West Japan Trading will release commemorative merchandise for the “500 Series Shinkansen,” which is scheduled to be retired in 2027, on October 14.
The collection consists of 10 items made from repurposed, unused, brand-new seat fabric from the 500 Series Shinkansen. It will be available on the official online stores “Train Box” and “DISCOVER WEST mall,” as well as at the JR West station-based store “Ekimaru à la Mode (JR Osaka Station Central Ticket Gate Store).”
The seat fabric is moquette—a material commonly used for standard car seats, known for its purple-toned color scheme—which features a short pile and a smooth texture. The lineup features items that blend seamlessly into everyday life, ranging from a mini pouch (4,400 yen) measuring approximately 8 × 4 × 11 cm (width × depth × height) to a tissue case (4,840 yen) and a tote bag (7,700 yen) measuring approximately 34 × 36 cm, as well as a square stool (9,900 yen) measuring approximately 30 cm on each side, a floor chair (20,350 yen), among other items—all part of a lineup designed to blend seamlessly into everyday life.
