NTT Urban Development will reopen the commercial zone of the “Akihabara UDX” mixed-use building in Akihabara, Tokyo (4-14-1 Sotokanda, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) on December 10.
In its first major renovation since opening in 2006, 27 stores—comprising the majority of the retail area—have been refurbished. The name has also been changed from “AKIBA_ICHI” to “UDX DINING & SHOP.”
The renovation concept is “Akihabara Central Table.” The goal is to create a “culinary hub” where people who work, live, and visit Akihabara can gather and interact as if seated around the same table. It will feature a variety of dining establishments catering to a wide range of needs—from everyday meals to special-occasion dinners—and is designed to accommodate diverse usage scenarios, including workers, local residents, individual diners, groups, and visitors coming to enjoy Akihabara’s unique culture.
“UDX DINING & SHOP” consists of four floors—floors 1 through 3 and the 5th floor—each offering a unique dining experience.
The first-floor “Welcome Table” brings together shops where visitors can enjoy takeout or dining on the terrace, serving as a bustling gateway connecting to the streets of Akihabara. The second-floor “NIGIWAI Table” features a food hall and terrace seating, centered around casual eateries that cater to quick dining needs. From the newly built outdoor terrace, visitors can enjoy their meals while watching the trains go by. The third-floor “KOBARE Table” features popular specialty restaurants suitable for everything from everyday dining to special occasions, offering a slightly more luxurious dining experience.
The 5th floor, “Workers Table,” is a floor designed for workers, featuring a café lounge and convenience store amenities. It includes a café counter and lounge area that can be used for meetings and remote work.
In addition, the first and second floors will feature open, airy spaces with natural light streaming in through large glass windows, and greenery will be placed throughout the building. On the second-floor terrace, we are planning a space where guests can enjoy their meals while feeling the breeze and the changing seasons.
