The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Kanto Regional Development Bureau and NEXCO East Japan’s Kanto Branch will open the section of the Higashi-Kanto Expressway (E51) between Namegata IC and Hokota IC at 3:00 p.m. on November 22.
This 7.9-kilometer extension—a provisional two-lane road—will open the northern section (toward Mito) of the 30.9-kilometer stretch between Itako IC and Hokota IC on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway’s Mito Line, and will also include the construction of a new Namegata IC.
The 11.9-kilometer section between Namegata IC and Itako-Namegata IC, and the 11.1-meter section between Itako-Namegata IC and Itako IC, are still under construction, with both scheduled to open in fiscal year 2027. Once the entire Mito Line of the Higashi-Kanto Expressway is completed, access to Ibaraki Airport and Narita Airport is expected to improve significantly, and the project is also expected to contribute to improved logistics at Kashima Port and Ibaraki Port.
