To help restore tourism demand following the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake, Kumamoto Prefecture will launch the “Kumamoto Recovery Support Discount” travel assistance program on October 1. Reservations will open on September 15 at 10:00 a.m.
The maximum discount amount is the same as that announced by the Japan Tourism Agency for the “Kyushu Recovery Support Discount”: 20,000 yen per night for accommodation-only packages and accommodation packages that include transportation; 30,000 yen for accommodation packages that include transportation for two or more nights; and 35,000 yen for multi-destination travel packages that span two or more prefectures.
The discount is valid for stays from October 1 through December 25 and will end once the budget is exhausted.
There are three booking methods: direct reservations with accommodations via phone or the web, travel agencies, and OTAs (online travel agencies). The specific names of participating businesses will be announced sequentially starting September 15 on a dedicated page on the prefecture’s official tourism website, “More, More! Kuma More.”
In addition, ahead of the launch of the Kumamoto Recovery Support Discount, 12 municipalities within the prefecture are currently implementing their own tourism support measures. As of September 11, the municipalities currently implementing these measures are as follows.
