Pakistan: “The Hidden Powerhouse of Game Development” — 4 Billion Cumulative Downloads Worldwide —
In Japan, few people may associate Pakistan with the gaming industry. However, in reality, it is a “hidden powerhouse of game development,” home to more than 300 game studios and over 12,000 developers, 3D artists, and engineers who work daily to support titles around the world. Games developed by Pakistani developers are said to have recorded more than 4 billion cumulative downloads worldwide, and the country is increasing its presence as an international hub for game development. (August 2023, Daily Pakistan)
These strengths go beyond the mere cost advantages typically associated with traditional offshore development. Key strengths include smooth communication in English, a wealth of young talent proficient in Unity and Unreal Engine, and a broad range of capabilities—from hyper-casual games to art production for console titles. In fact, major publishers and studios in Europe and the U.S. have already begun choosing Pakistan as a development partner.
At a time when securing high-value-added development resources has become a common challenge across the gaming industry, Pakistan has the potential to become a strong candidate as the “next development partner” for Japanese gaming companies. This pavilion offers a unique opportunity to conduct business negotiations directly in Japan with companies at the forefront of the global industry.
