JR East is holding a public vote to select a new mascot for its “Suica” transit IC card until 11:59 p.m. on September 23.
Voting will take place on a special website, and anyone can participate—limited to one vote per person. You can choose from three options: Option A (squirrel), Option B (rabbit), and Option C (the orange child).
The character that received the most votes will be announced on November 18, at which time a public contest to name the character will begin. The “Suica Penguin,” which has been a beloved icon for 25 years since its introduction in 2001, will retire on March 31, 2027, and be replaced by a new character starting April 1 of that year.
