The Chiba National Highway Office of the Kanto Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Kanto Branch of NEXCO East Japan announced that the section of the Metropolitan Central Link Expressway (C4, Ken-O Expressway) between Daiei JCT and Tako IC will open at 3:00 p.m. on November 7.
The section, which spans 9.1 km across Narita City in Chiba Prefecture and Tako Town in Katori District, will provisionally have two lanes. With this, two new interchanges—“Ken-O Narita IC” and “Tako IC”—will open to traffic.
With the opening of this new route, access to the “Narita City Public Regional Wholesale Market (Shinsei Narita Market)”—Japan’s first one-stop export hub where all processes, from the processing of agricultural and marine products to export procedures, can be completed on-site—is expected to improve. Travel time from the Daiei Interchange to the market is expected to be reduced by approximately 7 minutes, from about 13 minutes to about 6 minutes. Similarly, travel time from Asahi City—a major production area for melons and strawberries—is expected to be reduced by about 6 minutes, from about 61 minutes to about 55 minutes.
In addition, once the currently under-construction section between Tako IC and Matsuo-Yokoshiba IC (9.4 km in length) is fully opened, the travel time from Sanbu City to the market is expected to be reduced by approximately 26 minutes, from about 58 minutes to about 32 minutes.
