Seven Japanese airlines operating flights out of Haneda have moved up the check-in deadline for checked baggage to “30 minutes before departure.” The new rule takes effect tomorrow, September 1.

The Regular Air Service Association and its member airlines will begin implementing measures to ensure compliance with boarding deadlines starting September 1.

We will once again publicize the rule that the “departure time” refers to the “time the aircraft begins to move” and that, as a general rule, passengers cannot board if they miss the “boardings deadline.” Additionally, we will change the check-in deadlines for the seven airlines operating flights to and from Haneda Airport (JAL, JTA, ANA, AIRDO, Skymark, Solaseed Air, and StarFlyer) will adjust their checked baggage drop-off deadlines.

JAL (including J-AIR) and JTA, which currently specify “approximately 30 minutes before departure,” and ANA, AIRDO, Skymark, Solaseed Air, and StarFlyer, which specify a “20-minute-before-departure cutoff,” will all tighten their policies and move the cutoff time up to “30 minutes before departure.”

Regarding Skymark, while the airline initially stated that it would “continue to maintain a 20-minute-prior cutoff while continuing to evaluate the optimal time,” it announced on August 18 that it would align with the 30-minute-prior cutoff.
