The GREEN×EXPO Association and JR East will begin operating a Shinkansen train featuring special “GREEN×EXPO 2027” livery starting September 16, in conjunction with the 2027 International Horticultural Exposition “GREEN×EXPO 2027.”
The routes covered are the Tokyo–Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto section of the Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen (E5 series) and the Tokyo–Niigata and Tokyo–Tsuruga sections of the Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen (E7 series). The trains will feature designs of the official mascot character “Tunk Tunk” and others to promote the Horticultural Expo, which is now just half a year away from opening.
GREEN×EXPO 2027, Japan’s first horticultural expo in approximately 37 years since the 1990 Osaka Flower Expo, will have the theme “Tomorrow’s Landscape: Creating Happiness.” The event will run from March 19 to September 26, 2027, and will be held on approximately 100 hectares of land on the south side of the former Kamiseya Communications Facility in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
