“Liliha Bakery”: 76 Years of Local Roots and Traditional Flavors. Founded in 1950, “Liliha Bakery” is located on Liliha Street—a quiet, local neighborhood just a short distance from Waikiki. It’s a diner that has long been beloved by locals, who come here to enjoy family meals or pick up sweets. Five years ago, the long-awaited Waikiki location opened at the International Market Place. Then, this past July, another branch opened right in Waikiki. It’s located on the second floor of Waikiki Beach Walk—a surprisingly hidden gem. Since it’s on the second floor, there’s less foot traffic, and despite being in Waikiki, it’s enveloped in a laid-back atmosphere—making this location much more relaxing. The pancakes here are traditional Hawaiian-style. Or rather, the menu lists them as “hotcakes” (starting at $15.95). They’re slightly fluffy and moist—the most comforting flavor that really captures the essence of Hawaii. It’s a real treat to have a restaurant like this in Waikiki, offering a selection of dishes that could be called Hawaiian soul food, such as Loco Moco ($22.95) and Saimin ($18.95). By the way, the arugula salad with grilled salmon ($24.95) also has a loyal following. When I go with a friend, we share the pancakes and the salad. On your way out, don’t forget to stop by the bakery area inside the restaurant. It’s a must to grab some pastries from the display case and their signature dessert, the Coco Puff, to take home…!
