Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the earthquake damage in the Republic of Colombia have been delivered to that country.
The emergency aid supplies provided to the Republic of Colombia arrived in Cali, the capital of the Valle del Cauca department, on August 22. At 11:00 a.m. (local time) on the same day, a handover ceremony for the supplies was held at the Valle del Cauca Department’s supply distribution center, attended by, on the Colombian side, Dillian Francisca Toro, Governor of Valle del Cauca Department; and on the Japanese side, Toru Shimizu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Colombia, Akihiko Yamada, Director of the JICA Colombia Office, among others, attended a handover ceremony for the supplies.
At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Shimizu stated that the relief supplies were a symbol of Japan’s solidarity and friendship with Colombia and the Department of Valle del Cauca, and expressed his hope that Japan’s cooperation would extend beyond the provision of supplies to include support based on Japan’s experience in disaster prevention and reconstruction. In response, Governor Toro expressed his deep gratitude for Japan’s swift solidarity and support, and stated his intention to utilize Japan’s expertise to achieve a better recovery for the department.
The relief supplies provided on this occasion will be delivered to the victims by the government of that country.
