VEEMO will conduct a pilot test of “VEEMO Parking,” a parking space reservation service that utilizes a parking search app, at select parking spaces in the “Hibiya Parking Lot” (1 Hibiya Park, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), operated by NEXCO East Japan. The pilot will run from September 7 to October 26.
The system automatically unlocks the “VEEMO Stand”—an IoT device that physically blocks parking spaces by scanning the license plate numbers of pre-registered vehicles—for two parking bays within the facility. Reservations can be made starting 30 minutes before the scheduled time. The two parking spaces include one that is approximately 1.5 times the standard width (3.5 meters) and one equipped with EV charging facilities (200V).
To use the service, simply search for the Hibiya Parking Lot in the “VEEMO” app installed on your smartphone and reserve an available parking space. After entering the parking lot, follow the instructions to the “license plate reader,” confirm that the barrier for your reserved space has lowered, and park your car. When exiting, press the “Pay” button in the app; the barrier will automatically rise approximately 3 minutes after you complete this step.
Parking reservations can be made 24 hours a day, and there is no charge for making a reservation; however, standard parking fees for the Hibiya Parking Lot will apply. At the Hibiya Parking Lot, rates are 400 yen per 30 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, and 200 yen per 30 minutes from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day, with a daily maximum rate of 3,000 yen (until midnight). Vehicle restrictions are 6.5 × 2.5 × 2.2 m (length × width × height) and a weight limit of 4 metric tons.
The pilot program will ensure smooth vehicle entry and exit while also assessing user needs and operational challenges related to reservation services, such as parking spaces equipped with EV charging stations and wide parking spaces.
