Starting October 1, Keio Electric Railway will introduce a new “standing room” service on its Keio Liner reserved-seat trains and, at the same time, revise its reserved-seat fees.
Since standing room on many trains is consistently full during weekday rush hours, this measure is being implemented in response to passenger requests. In cars 1 through 9 (excluding cars 5 and 7) and car 10, the simple seating areas opposite the priority seats have been divided into three sections and assigned seat numbers, just like regular seats, and are sold as “standing room.”
The fare is 400 yen. Tickets are not available from ticket vending machines and can only be purchased online through the “Keio Ticketless Service.” However, you cannot change a standing-room-only ticket to a seated ticket on the same train once purchased. Advance tickets will go on sale starting September 24.
As part of the revision to seat reservation fees, the current flat rate of 410 yen will be replaced by a system based on the day of the week. For purchases made through the Keio Ticketless Service, the fee will be 500 yen on weekdays and 400 yen on Saturdays and holidays. For purchases made at ticket vending machines at each station, the fee will be 600 yen on weekdays and 500 yen on Saturdays and holidays.
If you board the train without purchasing a reserved seat ticket in advance, you will be required to pay 1,000 yen per person on board; however, the “Travel with Kids” discount, which allows you to use two seats for 500 yen, will remain at the same price even after the revision.
In conjunction with this, the Keio Points reward rate—which is awarded when paying with a Keio Passport Card registered for the Priority Reservation Service via the Keio Ticketless Service—will also increase starting October 1, from the current 4 points (1%) per seat purchased (410 yen) to 2% of the purchase amount.
