Eight organizations, including the Nagoya City Transportation Bureau, will launch a credit card fare payment service at all stations on the Nagoya Municipal Subway starting September 3.
Dedicated card readers will be installed at the ticket gates or ticket windows at every station, allowing passengers to board by tapping a credit card compatible with contactless payment or a smartphone with a credit card app set up for contactless payment.
Accepted international credit card brands include Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay.
In anticipation of an increase in visitors due to the Asian Games in September and the Asian Para Games in October, the system is designed so that even travelers unfamiliar with Japan’s unique ticket-purchasing system or transportation IC cards can use it without any trouble—a feature cited as one of its key benefits.
