JAL will reduce the amount of the special fuel surcharge applied to tickets issued between September 1 and October 31.
The two-month average price of Singapore kerosene from June to July was $132.50 per barrel. Multiplying this by the average exchange rate for the same period—161.63 yen to the dollar—results in a yen-denominated value of 21,417 yen for the Singapore kerosene market price; therefore, the fuel surcharge applied to airline tickets issued from September through October will be based on 21,000 yen.
However, due to the effect of the government’s emergency measures to mitigate sudden changes, a reduction based on the 20,000-yen threshold will be applied to tickets issued from September through October.
In the previous announcement, based on a standard rate of 25,000 yen, the rates were set at 7,400 yen for South Korea, 16,900 yen for Taiwan, 40,400 yen for Hawaii, and 65,000 yen for Europe, the U.S., and Australia.
