JR Central, JR West, and JR Kyushu will begin offering new discount tickets for young people, seniors, and people with disabilities through the “EX Service” (Express Reservation and Smart EX) online reservation system for the Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen lines, utilizing information such as My Number Cards.
To complete the eligibility verification required for boarding entirely online, users must register information obtained in advance from their My Number Card or My Number Portal (such as disability certificate details and date of birth) in the “EX App.” This will not only make it possible to purchase discount tickets with age restrictions—a first for the EX service—online, but it will also allow users to purchase discounted tickets for people with disabilities—which previously required presenting a disability certificate at a station ticket window—directly from their smartphones without visiting a ticket window, enabling them to board the train using a ticketless system.
Both will go on sale at 5:30 a.m. on September 15 and will be valid for travel beginning October 1. However, the two products—one for young people and one for seniors—will be available for a limited time only through the end of March 2027. Additionally, corporate members of Express Reservation, members of the overseas service of Smart EX, and users of “LINE to EX”—which allows Shinkansen reservations via LINE—are not eligible for these discounts.
In addition, the company plans to begin selling discounted tickets based on information from mental disability certificates in the spring of 2027.
