The JR Central Group announced that it will open the “Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station” (19-1 Higashikujo Higashiyamao-cho, Minami-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), a hotel it is developing in partnership with Marriott International, on November 16. Accordingly, reservations will be accepted on the official website starting August 6.
Located a 3-minute walk from the Hachijo East Exit of Kyoto Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen line, the hotel features 270 guest rooms across 9 above-ground floors and 1 underground floor. Guests can choose from a total of 10 room types, including the “Larger Guest Room (King/Twin)” at approximately 28 m², the “Guest Room (King)” at approximately 22 m², and the “Suite (King/Twin)” at approximately 66 m².
The building features eco-friendly design that incorporates local resources, such as “Tokaido Shinkansen recycled aluminum” for the guest room windows and “Miyako Somaki”—wood sourced from Kyoto City—for the entrance lobby. The interior design was handled by Hersch Bedner Associates.
In addition, an all-day dining restaurant called “The 8th Gate” will open inside the hotel; the name was chosen to reflect its location at the Hachijo Exit and the fact that it is the eighth hotel operated by JR Tokai Hotels.
In addition to offering a breakfast buffet supervised by Yukako Hayashi—a professor at Kyoto University and the hotel’s technical advisor—the venue functions as a café during the day and a bar in the evening, where guests can enjoy sake from local breweries and live piano music, all while savoring dishes made with ingredients unique to Kyoto. With a total of 150 seats (including 40 in the café and bar area), the venue is open from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
In addition, the company will introduce initiatives to support a comfortable trip to Kyoto, such as offering a sightseeing passport for visiting shrines and temples in collaboration with JR Central’s tourism campaign, “Let’s Go to Kyoto,” and supporting “LUGGAGE EXPRESS,” a wide-area same-day luggage delivery service provided by the JR Central Group and JTB.
Furthermore, the hotel aims to attract MICE events and host community gatherings in conjunction with the “Kyoto Station Eastern Complex Development Project” (tentative name), which is scheduled to open in 2028. This will be the second “Courtyard by Marriott” property in Kyoto, following the one in Kyoto Shijo Karasuma.
