Located in Akiu Onsen—one of the “Three Famous Hot Springs of Oshu” and known as “Sendai’s Inner Sanctum”—this property reopened in 2023 following a rebranding of the long-established ryokan “Iwanumaya.” The classic interior features a spacious public bath, an open-air bath set among natural rocks, and private baths. Guest rooms consist primarily of traditional Japanese-style rooms and rooms with Japanese-style beds, and the view of the lush greenery outside the windows creates a refreshing atmosphere.
The breakfast and dinner buffets are packed with flavors unique to the Tohoku region. The lineup features a variety of seafood delicacies, including the famous grilled beef tongue served from the live kitchen, large fried oysters from the Sanriku region served with tartar sauce containing smoked daikon radish, and sashimi made from Sanriku-caught swordfish.
