Ryohin Keikaku held the “MUJI Fall/Winter 2026 New Product Exhibition” at its Tokyo headquarters. This article introduces new mobility-related products designed to make everyday travel and outings more convenient.
“Breathable Bicycle Helmet” Developed Based on Student Feedback
According to Ryohin Keikaku, while wearing bicycle helmets became a non-binding requirement in April 2023, daily use has not become widespread due to reasons such as “they’re hot and stuffy,” “they mess up your hair,” and “they’re a hassle to carry around.”
Consequently, the company launched the “Everyone’s Helmet Project” in 2024 in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Aoyama Gakuin University, and students from Yamano Beauty College. The result of this initiative is the “Breathable Bicycle Helmet.”
Its most distinctive feature is the space created at the front of the helmet in response to students’ genuine concerns about their bangs getting flattened. The shell and liner are designed to allow air to circulate easily and prevent stuffiness, and the back of the helmet is designed so that tied-back hair can pass through the gap between the helmet body and the adjustment dial.
The visor (brim), which protects your vision from sunlight and light rain, can be attached or removed as needed. The fit can be adjusted by up to 4 cm using the dial on the adjuster strap at the back of the head.
The chin strap features a magnetic buckle that snaps shut simply by bringing the two sides together, and can be released by lightly pressing the button. It is designed to be easy to fasten and unfasten even while wearing gloves in the winter, using just one hand.
There is a loop on the back of the head that also serves as a reflective strip; it looks like it could be used to attach the item to a backpack for carrying or to hook it onto a bicycle handlebar for storage.
The product comes in two sizes: 52–56 cm and 56–60 cm. It is available in five colors: gray, brown, dark green, burgundy, and black. Each item is priced at 4,990 yen and is scheduled to go on sale starting August 19 at select MUJI stores and online.
