On August 4, the Ezuko Lake Fireworks Festival Executive Committee and the City of Kumamoto announced the cancellation of the “Saishunkan Pharmaceutical TKU Ezuko Lake Fireworks Festival 2026.” They stated that the decision to cancel was made after comprehensively considering the damage caused by the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake that occurred on July 28, among other factors.
According to the Kumamoto International Tourism and Convention Association, the sightseeing tours scheduled for August 29—the day of the launch—have also been canceled. Tour fees will be refunded in full. The association says it will contact participants via email in due course to explain the refund process.
