JR Central and JR West will begin selling the “Flex-Exclusive EX Seat Reservation Ticket,” which allows users of the “FREX (Commuter)” and “FREX Pal (Student)” commuter passes for the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines to reserve reserved seats in standard-class cars via Express Reservation and Smart EX, Green Car seats via Express Reservation and Smart EX.
A ticketless service that allows holders of valid Shinkansen commuter passes to reserve or change seats from 5:30 a.m. on the day of travel until 4 minutes before the train’s departure. For reserved seats in standard class, this service is available for commuter pass zones on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen between Tokyo and Hakata, and can be used on the “Nozomi” , “Hikari,” “Kodama,” “Mizuho,” and “Sakura.” Meanwhile, the Green Car service applies to commuter pass zones on the Tokaido Shinkansen between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka, and is limited to “Hikari” and “Kodama” trains.
During the regular season (for the Hikari, Kodama, and Sakura services), the fare for reserved seats in standard class between Tokyo and Mishima and between Kokura and Hakata is 430 yen, and and 1,200 yen for Green Car seats on the Tokyo–Mishima route (available for adults only; 100 yen discount during off-peak periods; 100–200 yen surcharge during peak periods). Please note that this product is not available through “LINE from EX.”
With the launch of this new product, sales of the existing “Kodama Green Commuter Pass for Flex” and “Flex Ticket for Oversized Luggage” will end on September 30.
