The Metropolitan Expressway Authority announced that, starting at 11:00 p.m. on October 18, it will close the “Shintomicho Exit (Inbound and Outbound)” on the Central Ring Road (C1) and close the “Ginza Entrance (Inbound)” for an extended period of approximately three years.
This is part of the construction of the “Shin-Kyobashi Link,” a new underground tunnel connecting the Yaesu Line and the Central Tokyo Loop Line, as well as large-scale reconstruction work on the aging walls along the Tsukiji River section (approximately 1.5 km). These efforts will advance the development of a new Central Tokyo Loop route.
The closure of the Shintomicho Exit is intended to make way for the construction of a new underground tunnel by removing the current “Kyobashi Entrance” and converting the Shintomicho Exit into the “Shintomicho Entrance” in its place.
The long-term road closure at the Ginza Entrance is intended not only to replace the concrete wall—which has been in place for more than 60 years since the road opened in 1962—but also to install an additional lane to facilitate a smoother merge onto the main road. As part of this project, the Ginza Entrance, which currently has two lanes, will be reduced to one lane.
The Metropolitan Expressway Authority is asking drivers to use alternative exits and entrances in the surrounding area—such as the “Shiodome Exit” and “Takaracho Entrance,” or the “Harumi Line” and “Ikebukuro Line”—during the construction period.
