On July 19, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force will conduct a Blue Impulse demonstration flight in the southeastern coastal area of Tokushima and as part of the “Komatsushima Port Festival 2026,” a commemorative event marking the 75th anniversary of Komatsushima City’s establishment.
The flight will take place from 12:20 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. The aircraft will fly over a wide area of Tokushima Prefecture—from Cape Kamogata in the south to the Great Naruto Bridge in the north—leaving a trail of smoke along the way. The main points along the route are: Ishima → Anan → Komatsushima → Tokushima, Yoshino River, and Matsushige → Great Naruto Bridge (U-turn and head south) → Naruto and Matsushige → Yoshino River and Tokushima → Komatsushima → Anan → Cape Kamoda.
It is expected that the flight path will be clearly visible even from open, safe locations near people’s homes, and the prefecture is encouraging spectators to spread out to help alleviate congestion and traffic jams and prevent accidents. Additionally, because traffic congestion is a concern on major roads, the prefecture is urging people to use public transportation. On the day of the event, JR Shikoku will operate special trains to assist with transporting spectators.
