“Asakusa Hanayashiki” (2-28-1 Asakusa, Taito Ward, Tokyo) will hold special hours on July 25, the day of the Sumida River Fireworks Festival. The park, which normally closes at 6:00 p.m., will remain open until 9:00 p.m.
Under the theme “Enjoying the Sumida River Fireworks Festival Beyond Just Watching,” the event will feature six activities: holding, shouting, listening, looking up, wearing, and spending time.
The company reportedly receives numerous inquiries every year about whether the Sumida River fireworks can be seen from within the park, and its official stance is, “You might be able to see them, or you might not.” That said, since visitors are guaranteed to see handheld fireworks 100% of the time—even if they can’t see the distant fireworks displays—the park will host a “handheld fireworks festival” featuring sparklers and other handheld fireworks. Visitors are not permitted to bring their own fireworks; Hanayashiki will provide them.
In addition, since “it’s unclear whether visitors will be able to see the fireworks, but they will definitely be able to hear them,” the park will project footage of the fireworks onto screens throughout the grounds, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the experience in sync with the sounds of the Sumida River Fireworks Festival.
In addition, they will be selling T-shirts featuring a boy looking up at fireworks and a panda car.
