Yamazen will begin pre-sales of the “COALAN CL-725 Outdoor Carbon Monoxide Alarm,” developed by gas alarm manufacturer New Cosmos Electric, on the crowdfunding platform “Makuake” starting July 21. The price is 15,345 yen.
A safety device that detects colorless, odorless carbon monoxide (CO)—produced by incomplete combustion when using stoves inside tents or in vehicles during winter camping—and quickly alerts users to the risk of poisoning. If the carbon monoxide concentration remains at “25 ppm or higher for 15 consecutive minutes” or reaches “100 ppm or higher,” the device triggers an alarm with voice alerts in Japanese and English, accompanied by flashing LEDs.
The new CL-725 model is a redesigned version of the previous model (COALAN CL-715) from New Cosmos Electric, which was exclusively distributed by Yamazen. By incorporating a specialized lithium battery designed to withstand low-temperature environments, the device can now be used for up to six years without the need to replace the battery.
In addition, the device now features a new “Inspection Mode” that allows users to verify its operation simply by extracting carbon monoxide from the flame of a portable gas stove using the included inspection syringe and spraying it onto the device. While the previous operation check was designed to sound an alarm at concentrations of 100 ppm or higher, this inspection mode has been improved to sound an alarm at half that level—50 ppm—allowing users to perform checks more easily and reliably on their own.
To improve visibility, we have adopted a high-resolution black-and-white semi-transparent LCD display and added a temperature display feature, which was frequently requested by users. The display is easy to read even in direct sunlight, and the backlight function allows users to check the readings at night.
In addition, the device features dust- and splash-resistant design meeting the “IP54” protection rating, as well as a rubber guard designed to absorb impact from drops, making it suitable for use in harsh environments ranging from -10°C to 50°C. Measuring 72.8 × 38.0 × 72.8 mm (width × depth × height) and weighing approximately 130 g, it is designed for easy portability and comes with a carabiner.
