On July 10, Keisei Electric Railway announced that it had decided to designate the new limited-express train series, scheduled to begin service in fiscal year 2028, as the “3900 Series,” and unveiled the train’s concept and design. In conjunction with this announcement, the company is holding a public contest to select a nickname for the new limited-express train.
The 3900 series is designed to travel at a maximum speed of 160 km/h and is scheduled to connect Oshiage Station—a central hub in Tokyo—to Narita Airport (Airport Terminal 2 Station) in Chiba Prefecture in as little as the low 30-minute range. The exterior features a pink color scheme reminiscent of spring, with black accents and headlights designed to resemble cherry blossom petals. In addition to being equipped with power outlets and USB Type-C ports at every seat, one car in each train set will be designated as a “Special Car,” offering a premium experience with three rows of seats featuring wider seat widths and greater legroom.
In the future, the goal is to implement through service to the Toei Asakusa Line and the Keikyu Line. There is also a proposed plan to expand the track capacity (by adding a fourth track) on a section of the existing airport access line, the “Narita Sky Access Line,” by constructing a dedicated track. If realized, travel time is expected to be reduced to as fast as the late 20s.
The call for nickname submissions will remain open until August 16, 2026, and each person may submit up to three entries via the dedicated form on the special website. Submitters of the selected nickname will be entered into a drawing to win prizes such as 200,000 yen in travel vouchers or a pair of overnight stays in the “Train Room”—a railroad-themed guest room—at the affiliated hotel, Keisei Hotel Miramare.
The chosen nickname is scheduled to be announced in conjunction with the vehicle’s unveiling during fiscal year 2027.
