Kame no I Hotel Nachi-Katsuura Launches New Activity: “Katsuura Good Luck Walk.” The manager himself serves as the guide for this 888-meter course, designed to symbolize prosperity.

Kame no I Hotel Nachikatsuura (216-19 Katsuura, Nachikatsuura-cho, Higashimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture) has launched the “Katsuura Good Luck Walk,” a tour exclusive to hotel guests.

This new activity features the hotel manager serving as a guide for a walk along an 888-meter course—a distance chosen for its association with the auspicious number 8—which takes about 40 to 50 minutes to complete. The tour takes participants along a walking path offering a distant view of Nachi Falls and visits local spots believed to bring good luck—such as the Snake Mound, Koganejima Fishing Port, and Benten Island—allowing them to learn about the area’s history and folklore. The fee is 500 yen per person (free for high school students and younger), and participants receive a complimentary good-luck charm. A free promotion is being held through the end of August.

In addition, through a partnership with the neighboring town of Taiji, we have launched an activity exclusive to hotel guests that combines admission to the “Taiji Town Whale Museum”—one of the world’s few museums dedicated to whales—with a whale and dolphin feeding experience. The price is 300 yen off the regular rate, at 1,800 yen for adults and 900 yen for elementary and junior high school students.

Other highlights include the “Fresh Tuna Auction Market Guided Tour” at Katsuura Fishing Port—which boasts the highest volume of fresh tuna landings in Japan—and an experience at “Kushimoto Underwater Park,” which features an aquarium and an underwater observation tower, and the “Katsuura Walking Tour: Tracing the Bustling Atmosphere of the Showa Era” led by a local guide—all part of a diverse lineup of programs that make the most of the area’s tourist attractions.

This hotel is a hot spring inn with ocean views overlooking the Kumano Sea, featuring a total of 102 guest rooms. It has its own natural hot spring source that produces an abundant flow of 200 liters per minute, and serves as a convenient base for exploring the World Heritage Site, the “Kumano Kodo.”

For dinner, guests can enjoy creative kaiseki cuisine featuring fresh tuna and spiny lobster sourced from Katsuura Fishing Port, as well as vegetables and fruits from the Kumano region.
