The Kurobe Gorge Railway will resume full-line operations of its open-air train between Unazuki Station and Keyakidaira Station starting October 1. In response, Toyama Prefecture announced that it will open the “Kurobe-Unazuki Canyon Route” to the public starting October 2.
The Kurobe-Unazuki Canyon Route is a new tourist route in Toyama Prefecture that connects the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route with the Kurobe Gorge. Its opening had been postponed because a portion of the Kurobe Gorge Railway was suspended due to the Reiwa 6 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
Sales of the sightseeing tours will begin simultaneously at travel agencies nationwide on July 23. Major participating agencies include companies in the JTB Group, Nippon Travel Agency, Hankyu Travel, and Kinki Nippon Tourist. For the first year, four courses are available, with space for approximately 2,700 participants (as of May 14).
Prior to the public opening, a departure ceremony will be held at Unazuki Station on the Kurobe Gorge Railway on October 1. A commemorative train service, exclusive to JTB Premium Stage members (selected by lottery), will be operated. Details regarding the route for the inaugural service are reportedly being announced in the members-only email newsletter.
JTB will open the “Keyakidaira Lounge” on October 1, connecting the Kurotetsu and Canyon Routes. The lounge will utilize an area (approximately 88 m²) that was previously part of the cafeteria on the second floor of Keyakidaira Station. It will serve as a facility for security checks for tour participants, the distribution and collection of helmets, and the provision of drinks and lunch (on select courses).
In Tokyo, a travel product briefing session will be held from July 23 to 26 at the Toyama Prefecture promotional shop “Nihonbashi Toyama-kan” (1st Floor, Nihonbashi Daiei Building, 1-2-6 Nihonbashi Muromachi, Chuo Ward, Tokyo). An information desk will also be set up.
