Nakano Ward, Tokyo; JR East; Tokyo Metro; and the Urban Renaissance Agency (UR) will begin operating the new station facilities currently under construction on the west side of Nakano Station at 12:00 p.m. on December 6.
An “elevated station building” constructed to span the tracks, along with a new 19-meter-wide, approximately 80-meter-long 19 meters wide, connecting Nakano 3-chome and 4-chome. Additionally, a new “West Ticket Gate” will be established on the second floor of the elevated station building, equipped with seven ticket vending machines and eight fare gates.
In addition, the concourse inside the ticket gates will feature accessible restrooms and baby care rooms, and a total of four 15-person elevators and eight escalators will be installed to serve the various platforms. This will provide a fully accessible route from the city streets to the station platforms without any steps.
On the north side of the station, the “New North Exit Station Square” development project is also underway (scheduled for completion in fiscal year 2029). As part of this project, a section of the approximately 175-meter-long pedestrian deck extending toward the large-scale redevelopment area “Nakano Shiki no Machi” will open in advance on December 6, separating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to enhance safety.
Four escalators and one elevator will also be installed at “Nakano Station Momozono Plaza,” located south of the new ticket gates, to smoothly accommodate pedestrians exiting the gates. Furthermore, the newly constructed north-south passageway will also serve as a third major evacuation route, allowing people to escape from the south side of the station to the wide-area evacuation site on the north side (the Nakano Ward Office area) in the event of a disaster.
As part of the urban development efforts around these stations, the commercial facility “Atre Nakano,” which is directly connected to the new ticket gates on the second floor of the elevated station building, is scheduled to open on December 9.
