In response to the earthquake damage in Venezuela, JICA will dispatch an International Emergency Assistance Team and a medical team as follows.

1. Disaster Situation
At around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, Japan Standard Time (around 6:00 p.m. on June 24 local time), a major earthquake with a magnitude exceeding 7 struck approximately 160 km west of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, causing extensive damage primarily in the Caracas area. According to the Venezuelan government, as of July 1, the damage is estimated to include 1,943 fatalities, more than 10,571 injuries, and more than 855 damaged homes.
JICA has also decided to provide emergency relief supplies.
2. Dispatch of the Japan International Emergency Assistance Team and Medical Teams
In response to a request from the Venezuelan government, the Japanese government decided on the 1st to dispatch a medical team from the Japan International Emergency Assistance Corps (JIEAC), and JICA has begun preparations for the team’s deployment. The details are as follows.
The medical team consists of a total of 42 members, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and others.
Departures from Japan are scheduled to begin sequentially starting on Friday, July 3.
The assignment is expected to last two weeks.
