Tokyo Disneyland will present “Reach for the Stars: Everlasting Dreams” from July 2 to September 14. Ahead of the opening, a preview performance for the press was held on July 1.
Set against the backdrop of Cinderella Castle, “Reach for the Stars” is a nighttime entertainment show that debuted in September 2024. Over the course of about 20 minutes, it depicts a variety of Disney characters—including those from Pixar and Marvel—soaring through the sky as they pursue their dreams.
This popular show combines familiar Disney songs with special effects such as projection mapping and pyrotechnics, creating a dramatic atmosphere. However, it has been decided that the show will end this summer.
Until the final day, September 14, a special finale version will be presented, featuring a new 5-minute segment added after the main show, “Reach for the Stars” (approx. 20 minutes). This segment includes a drone show—a first for Tokyo Disneyland.
As previously featured on a TV program, drone performances were held during the opening of “Fantasy Springs” at Tokyo DisneySea, as well as at the “Tokyo Disney Resort Special Drone Show ‘Magic in the Air’” —and the combination of fireworks and drones is sure to have left a lasting impression on many people.
Tokyo Disneyland—and especially the fact that drone displays are being added to the nightly entertainment—is full of firsts! It’s impossible not to get excited.
During the additional five minutes, the epilogues of the various characters who enliven the show take place at Cinderella Castle. At the very beginning, a shooting star appears in the night sky!
From the cute bees in *Winnie the Pooh* to Casey Junior (the steam locomotive) from *Dumbo* racing off while puffing smoke, and even a scene inspired by the Lantern Festival from *Tangled*, the show features a wide variety of moments—ranging from high-energy performances to romantic scenes.
Next up are the building blocks, spaceship, and sheriff’s badge—items that everyone immediately associates with the “Toy Story” series. There’s even a scene reminiscent of Cinderella Castle, a familiar sight from the openings of Disney movies!
One of the highlights is the staging, which incorporates elements from the films that can be considered the origins of the Disney universe, allowing viewers to clearly sense the story’s beginnings as well as the connections between the characters and works that have emerged from them.
And finally, the show culminated in the “Reach for the Stars” logo! I’ve seen countless drone displays at fireworks festivals and other events over the years, but in “Reach for the Stars: Everlasting Dreams,” the speed at which each motif was rendered and the transitions between them were incredibly smooth.
The pacing when combined with the visuals and music was also superb, allowing me to enjoy the more advanced drone-based presentation in a truly immersive way.
In the past, there were only two options for watching the drone show at Tokyo Disney Resort: watching it from this side of the screen or heading to the fireworks venue. While weather conditions may vary, this summer—for about two months—you’ll have the chance to see it “almost every day” at Tokyo Disneyland! That means you’ll just have to visit the park over and over again, won’t you?
This time, I watched the show from a spot in the center of the “Castle Forecourt”—the plaza in front of Cinderella Castle—slightly toward the lower left (as you face it). However, about one-third of the right side of the drone display was obscured by the castle, which made it a little difficult to see the whole picture.
If you’d rather see the overall production—including the drones—than the characters depicted on Cinderella Castle, you might want to enjoy the show from a slightly more distant vantage point, such as the special viewing seats in Plaza Garden (available to vacation package bookers) or the area around World Bazaar.
