The theme of this workshop is “A Practical Approach Using the Guidance Note on Mainstreaming Disability—Examining Mainstreaming Disability Through JICA Project Case Studies.” In this workshop, participants will engage in dialogue to learn, in concrete terms, how to incorporate mainstreaming disability into their daily work, using actual examples from JICA projects. This workshop is recommended for those who have read the “Guidance Note on Mainstreaming Disability” but are unsure how to apply it in the field, or who want to learn how to incorporate the perspectives of people with disabilities. Through this workshop, you will gain concrete insights on how to incorporate disability mainstreaming—not merely as a “principle”—into the actual design and implementation of projects. Please take advantage of this valuable opportunity to hear from both the guidance note developers and people with disabilities themselves.
In the first half of the event, Mr. Nishimura of Koei Research & Consulting Co., Ltd.—who was involved in the development of the “Guidance Note on Mainstreaming Disability”—will explain how to use the Guidance Note. Next, Ms. Sato from the NPO DPI Japan, who participated in the development of the Guidance Notes as a person with a disability, will share details about her involvement. Following that, JICA will present case studies of projects that have implemented mainstreaming of disability.
During the small-group work session in the second half, building on the content covered in the first half, we will discuss JICA projects as case studies to explore what innovative approaches were implemented, what additional perspectives could be incorporated, and how to strengthen stakeholder participation.
Finally, we will hear comments from those directly involved. We will hear from Mr. Sato and Mr. Soda, also from the NPO DPI Japan.
After the event, we will hold a networking session that is open to all. For the first time in a while, we will be hosting this event in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online participation. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to join us.
