JR Central and Oriental Land will begin operating a special Tokaido Shinkansen train set called the “Sparkling Dreams Shinkansen” starting June 19. Ahead of this, a press preview of the train was held at JR Central’s Hamamatsu Factory on the 14th.
The design of the train’s exterior and interior is based on the theme of the event currently underway at Tokyo DisneySea, “Tokyo DisneySea 25th Anniversary ‘Sparkling Jubilee’.” This special Tokaido Shinkansen train, created in collaboration with Disney, will begin service in 2025, marking the second such collaboration since the “Wonderful Dreams Shinkansen,” which was themed around Fantasy Springs.
The trains in service will be N700A sets consisting of 16 cars each, operating as “Hikari” and “Kodama” services between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka. Service is scheduled to continue until around mid-March 2027.
The unveiling ceremony held on the same day was attended by Shunsuke Niwa, President and Representative Director of JR Central; Wataru Takahashi, President and Representative Director and COO of Oriental Land; and Shingo Kameda, Tokyo Disney Resort Ambassador.
JR Central President Niwa reflected on last year’s initiative, saying, “Our previous ‘Wonderful Dreams Shinkansen’ campaign was used by a large number of passengers and received positive feedback on social media.”
He continued, “We hope that even more passengers will choose to ride with us this time, allowing them to experience the excitement of heading to Tokyo Disney Resort and enjoy the journey itself as a special experience. We invite you to enjoy a special journey aboard a special Shinkansen.”
At the end of the ceremony, Mickey Mouse made an appearance dressed in a special Jubilee Blue outfit. He stood before the gleaming train cars, expressing his joy with his whole body.
