Signing of a Grant Agreement for Grant Aid to Cambodia: Supporting Capacity Building for Teachers in Basic Education Through the Development of Teacher Training Colleges | News & Public Relations

On June 25, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, for the “Project to Establish a Teacher Training University in Kampong Cham Province.” The agreement was signed that day by H.E. Oun Ponmonirat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Kazumasa Sanai, Director of the JICA Cambodia Office.

This project aims to enhance the capabilities of teachers engaged in basic education by promoting teacher training universities, thereby contributing to the development of human resources who will support Cambodian society and industry. Furthermore, in Cambodia—a country with deep human and economic ties to Japan—cooperating in the development of human resources who will support society and the economy will contribute to the medium- to long-term development of relations between the two countries.

・Business Objectives

At the teacher training college in Kampong Cham Province, this project aims to improve the capabilities of teachers trained at the college by providing the educational facilities and subject-specific equipment necessary to upgrade the institution to a four-year teacher training university, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the four-year teacher training system and the improvement of the quality of basic education.

1. Details of Facilities, Equipment, etc.

[Facilities] STEM Building (STEM: Facilities designed to support education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Includes teacher training laboratories, a digital multipurpose space, a large lecture hall, the President’s Office, the Vice President’s Office, conference rooms, a health office, and various administrative offices), Auditorium Building; total gross floor area: approximately 4,032 m²

[Equipment] Laboratory equipment, lab benches, ICT equipment (interactive whiteboards, remote lecture equipment, etc.), science and math teaching materials

2. Consulting Services/Software Components: Detailed Design, Bidding Support, Construction and Procurement Management

1.189 billion yen

・Scheduled Implementation Period

40 months (including 28 months for facility completion and a 1-year warranty period)
